Finding Characters
February 23, 2011
The past several days, we've spent a lot of time at Shivaji Park, the heart of Mumbai's storied cricket tradition and birthplace of great cricketers from Madhav Mantri to Sachin Tendulkar. We've met coaches and cricketers of all ages. We've talked to a lot of people on and off camera.
Among the interesting people we found was Kaikesha, a 21-yr old Muslim girl who used to come to the ground in her burkha and watch cricket. She convinced her father with a coach's help to let her shed the burkha and put on cricket whites. Now she is a solid talent one tryout away from being on the Indian women's team. See her picture below on a train from home to the cricket ground surrounded by women dressed like she used to dress until recently.
Also a picture of the newly arrived Jeremy, Shashi (sound guy) and Guru (camera asst.) in action shooting plastic ball cricket at the BDD Chawl (slum).
