Some pics from a day with Prithvi Shaw
April 23, 2011
One of the characters we have been following is 12-yr old Prithvi Shaw. A local cricketer who plays for the MIG Club as well as for his school (where he is in 6th grade), Prithvi has been making a name for himself in Mumbai cricket circles for the past 3 years. He has broken all kinds of school batting records, scoring several consecutive hundreds in inter-school competition. He captains a school under-16 side with kids a few years older than him.
Prithvi also plays for a local club team at the Air India Ground in Wakola, where he routinely faces bowlers who are in their early twenties. The next youngest player on that team is a 20-yr old.
Mumbai sports beat writers have hailed Prithvi as the next Sachin Tendulkar. The most sober assessment we got was that he is the best 12-year old batsman in the country. We met Prithvi after we had already heard about his records and prowess and were shocked to see that he is just a little boy having fun out there.
Here are a few pics of him exhausted after practice at MIG and packing up his gear.
P.S. I'd like to thank the MIG club for allowing us to shoot against their typical rules. We even shot Yuvraj Singh's interview there and we couldn't have done it without their understanding and support.
