The Biggest Cricket Match Ever?

March 29, 2011

The only way it could have been bigger was if India and Pakistan were facing each other in the World Cup Finals. It's a Semi-Final tomorrow but for most people here it might as well be a final. Shops will be closed, most companies are closing early to allow their employees to watch the match. Perhaps because employers know employees would leave anyway.

We're gearing up to shoot all over Mumbai from a slum in Prabhadevi where hopefully dozens will watch the match on a rented big screen to a high-end members only Club in Juhu where fans will sip Tanqueray&Tonics as they watch the action go down. We have two camera units in different parts of town.

India and Pakistan matches have historically been the most watched matches in cricket and tomorrow promises to be no different. Indian fans will be praying tomorrow to the Gods of cricket, no matter what religion they are.

But as one fan said to us today, "Whoever wins, me and my buddies will be getting drunk!" He also offered me weed later.
